Fear? Sure? But don't give it your power

He who fears something gives it power over him.

We often encourage a loved one to do something they fear, be it a new job, a move, a relationship, get a wild new haircut, sign up for singing lessons, whatever, because we see their strengths, beauty, and talent. We see their power when they don’t.

We tell them “You’ve got this!” and flick away their fears.

But do we remind ourselves?

Often our fear as adults is the fear of “what if it doesn’t work out?”

WHAT IF IT DOES?!

"To fear is one thing. To let fear grab you by the tail and swing you around is another." ~Katherine Paterson

Too often we let fear be the driver, or more likely, the brakes. We let fear swing us around until we’re dizzy and want to throw up.

When we walk into the shadow, we usually discover fear is not as terror-filled as we thought. We enter its midst and see options and possibilities. Taking that first step with a deep breath and a wee bit of courage changes perspective.

If we are still breathing, we are going to be doing a dance with fear. So don’t fret about it. Don’t think you must be “fearless.” That’s a myth. Being able to see fear for what it is – an opportunity – is the wisdom of the ages.

Don’t give your power to fear. Don’t let fear swing you around by the tail.

Look back at every fear – large and small – that you have faced and be encouraged to face one more. With every step, you become more of your true self. You realize the next level of your evolution.
